  • powerful macro fixed focal length
  • impressive resolution and incredible clarity for a breathtaking visual experience
  • smooth autofocus performance
  • Focus-by-wire system for comfortable and precise focusing
  • ideal for nature/landscape, macro + wildlife photography
  • dust and splash-proof

In recent years, macro lenses in the standard range have tended to use internal focusing to maximize autofocus speed. In contrast, the SIGMA 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO | Art Lens is designed to prioritize optical performance to meet the demanding image quality requirements that define the Art product line.

It delivers impressive resolution and incredible clarity for the medium telephoto range, well beyond the expectations of a macro Lens.

The ironless DC motor further enhances image quality, while an optimized algorithm ensures exceptionally smooth autofocus performance for a heavier high-performance Lens. Photography enthusiasts will certainly remember a legendary, absolutely sharp macro Lens - the SIGMA MACRO 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro - and will be pleased to know that it is now available in a new form; updated with the outstanding quality of the Art product line.

To achieve top performance at any shooting distance, the Lens features an extending, two-group floating focus mechanism. This configuration minimizes aberrations for optimum results at all shooting distances. To minimize longitudinal chromatic aberrations, the optical system contains two FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements and one element with a high rate of anomalous partial dispersion and a high refractive index. In addition, two aspherical lens elements help to increase the resolution at short shooting distances. This optical system enables a razor-sharp focus area that contrasts with a bokeh area without color streaks.

The focus-by-wire system prevents a direct mechanical connection between the focus ring and the focus drive. A newly developed ironless DC motor, controlled by the latest algorithm, regulates focusing quietly and at optimum speed. Manual focus is also available during autofocus, allowing the photographer to manually adjust the focus by simply turning the focus ring. In addition, the large rotation angle of the focus ring helps the photographer to achieve the extremely precise focusing required for macro photography.

Compatible with Sony E-mount full-frame cameras

The Sony E-mount version of this Lens is compatible with Sony mirrorless cameras and incorporates the same optical system as the versions for SLR cameras. The SIGMA MC-11 mount converter is not required and the lens supports the camera's internal functions such as image stabilization and lens aberration correction. In addition, the Lens is compatible with Sony's focus tracking AF, which is not available via the MC-11 mount converter. SIGMA also plans to gradually offer Sony E-mount versions of all full-frame fixed focal lengths from 14mm to 135mm currently available in the Art product line.

Note: This product is designed, manufactured and sold based on the E-mount specifications announced by Sony Corporation under
the license agreement with Sony Corporation.

Compatible with Canon's Lens aberration correction

The Canon bayonet version of this Lens is compatible with Canon's Lens Aberration Correction1. This function is matched to the optical characteristics of the lens and performs in-camera corrections for edge illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion and the like, thus improving image quality.
1This function is not available in all Canon cameras. In addition, the correction options may differ depending on the Canon camera model.

DG Lens
SIGMA's DG lenses are designed for demanding use on digital cameras with sensors up to 24x36mm format (colloquially known as full format). By using the latest coating processes, ghost images caused by reflections on the sensor surface are successfully eliminated and at the same time a balanced color balance and outstanding optical performance are achieved.
As these lenses also illuminate the analog film format 24x36mm, their use on some suitable analog cameras is also possible, although we would ask you to contact us in individual cases.

ASP
Normally, light rays close to the edge are refracted more strongly towards the center when passing through a lens than light rays close to the axis. Images taken with an uncorrected system can therefore be blurred towards the edge. The aspherical correction of an optical system now eliminates numerous imaging errors at once. Sharpness is achieved across the entire field of view, distortion is reduced to a minimum and the lens can be made smaller and lighter due to our advanced correction methods. Almost all of our Lens are equipped with at least one aspherical lens element.

Hands on the new Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS S

Sigma's 70-200 f/2.8 is a strong competitor to lenses from Sony and Panasonic. The attractive price of €1,699 RRP makes the Sigma a worthwhile alternative, especially in comparison to the 70-200 2.8 from Panasonic and Sony's new G-Master, which is significantly more expensive.
